Abstract

The study examined the relationship between labour relation and employee affective commitment in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research
design. Krejcie and Morgan Sample Size Determination Table of 1970 was used to obtain a sample size of 186 from a population of 360 staff in the head offices of 22 deposit
money banks in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. After validation by the supervisors and other experts, Cronbach alpha was used to test the reliability of the instrument. The questionnaire was administered using Google Form survey tool shared via links. A total of 180 responses were received. Mean and standard deviation were used for the univariate analysis; Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient was used for the bivariate analysis. The findings revealed that there is a significant positive correlation between labour relation and employee affective in money deposit banks, Rivers State, Nigeria. The study concluded that labour relation constitutes significant determinant of employee commitment in deposit money banks in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The research recommended amongst others that management should build an organizational culture that accommodates employee-friendly practices such as high compensation, regular training/development and employee voice in order to ignite and sustain employee commitment.
