NIGER DELTA CONFLICT AND RESOURCE CONTROL: MATTERS ARISING

Abstract

The statement credited to the Late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro in 1966 today is a great day, not only in our times, but also in the history of the Niger Delta. Perhaps it will be greatest day for a very long time. This is not because we are going to bring the heaven down, but because we are going to demonstrate to the world what and how we feel about oppression. Remember your 70 years old grandmother who still farms before she eats; remember also your poverty stricken people; remember, too, your petroleum which is being pumped out daily from your veins, and then fight for your freedom marks the beginning of what is today the struggle for the control of the soul of the Niger Delta region and her oil wealth. The oil rich region of the Niger Delta is undoubtedly the source of Nigeria wealth (Owugah, 2018).
