Abstract

This study presents a selected annotated bibliography of scholarly publications produced by Yobe State University faculties and researchers, in twenty-three (23) peer-reviewed journals (Al-Muqaddimah, Innovative Journal of Management and Science Education(IJMSE), International Journal of Management and Social Sciences(IJMSS), International Journal of Research and Development Studies(IJRDS), Innovative Journal of Social Science, Arts and Management (IJSSAM), International Journal of Research in Library Science (IJRLS), International Journal of Research and Sustainable Development (IJRSD), International Journal of Computer Science and Information Technology Research (IJCSITR), Jewel Journal of Librarianship (JJL), Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Communicate: Journal of Information Science(AAUECJIS),Yobe Journal of Economics(YOJE), Yobe Journal of Management Innovations (YOJMI), Yobe Journal of Economics (YOJE), Yobe Journal of Environmental and Development (YJED), and Yobe State University Law Review, (YSLR).) between 2017 and 2024. The annotated bibliography provides a systematic and detailed overview of the research output of Yobe State University faculties, covering various disciplines and fields of study. The study employed bibliometric analysis, utilizing forty-five (145) reputable journals in related fields as instruments for data collection. A total of one hundred and forty-five (145) articles published within the specified timeframe were meticulously examined, analysed, and annotated. The annotated bibliography offers concise summaries and evaluations of each source, highlighting their research themes, methodologies, findings, and contributions to the existing body of knowledge. The findings of this study reveal the research strengths and gaps of Yobe State University faculties, indicate that three (3) authors has more publication within the year range of this study, journal of  Al-Muqaddimah Published more articles, and faculty of Arts has the most articles. The research themes are more dominant in social science and arts and education with topics related to environmental development and survey research method was pupillary used. Based on the analysis, recommendations were provided for university administrators, faculty members, and researchers to improve the research ecosystem, foster a culture of research excellence, and promote knowledge sharing and collaboration. These recommendations include strategies for enhancing research capacity, improving publication quality, and increasing the visibility and impact of research output. This selected annotated bibliography serves as a valuable resource for researchers, academics, and practitioners seeking to understand the research landscape of Yobe State University faculties and identify potential areas for collaboration and knowledge sharing. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on African universities and their research output, providing insights into the challenges and opportunities facing these institutions.
