Abstract

The study x-rayed child abusive acts and the need for the improvement of child welfare in Nigeria. In doing this, it first and foremost answered the question: What is child abuse? Beyond the relevant answers given on the above question, it also explained types of child abuse, incidents of child abuse, Child’s Rights Act (CRA), child welfare and its situation in Nigeria. In addition, it delineated the need for the improvement of child welfare in Nigeria. In line with the foregoing, it therefore, recommended among others that the National Legislative Assembly amends all the clauses of 2003 CRA by stipulating more stringent penalties for those who violate them, in order to reduce, if not eliminate physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional maltreatment and physical neglect from engulfing the Nigerian children.
