Ethnic Diversity and Employee Performance in Selected Commercial Banks in Rivers State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study examined ethnic diversity and employee performance in selected commercial banks in Rivers State, Nigeria. Three objectives and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A quasi-experimental research design was adopted. The target population of this study was the employees of ten (10) commercial banks in Rivers State. The sample size comprised of Three Hundred and Seven (307) respondents of the employees in the selected commercial banks in Rivers State, Nigeria. This was obtained using the Taro Yemen’s formula. This study employed the use of frequency and percentages, pie and bar chart in demographic data of the respondents.
Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient was used in testing the hypotheses one to nine, while partial correlation was adopted in testing hypotheses ten formulated for the study, at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that a significant relationship exists between ethnic diversity on work environment, job dedication and motivation respectively in comercial banks in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study concluded that when ethnic diversity is encouraged in any organization/company; it improves employee performance.
