Abstract

Oil spillage in Port Harcourt and other Niger delta communities in Nigeria have left several arable lands and aquatic lives destroyed (Ikel Ikelegbe 2005). Other problems and negative impacts include negative social impacts, conflict and violence amongst others. This is as the minimal contributions of these oil and gas corporations have contributed far below expectations with evidence of poverty in many communities and environmental degradation resulting from various ills including gas flaring, and oil spillage. Multinational corporations and governments are involved in a plethora of sustainability activities in the Niger Delta and other parts of Nigeria oil spillage in Port Harcourt and other Niger delta communities in Nigeria have left several arable lands and aquatic lives destroyed.
