STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between strategic human resource management and sustainable economic growth. It identified some drivers of economic growth as consumers’ spending, business investment and human capital development which should be undertaken by the government and the corporate sector. The study was based on the available literature and two major theories were adopted which became the backdrop of SHRM and sustainable economic growth, which are the human capital theory and resource based theory. The finding reveals that economic growth is dependent and directly proportional to effective SHRM practice. It therefore recommends that the Niger Delta region that produces the golden egg should not be neglected or relegated rather a massive manpower development plan be implemented to enhance economic growth and turnaround of the area
