INSTITUTIONAL PERCEPTION ON PROSPECTS AND PROBLEMS OF VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL/TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION IN TARABA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
The major focus of this paper is to examine the institutional perception on the prospect and problem of VTE in Taraba State, Nigeria. Twenty questions guided the study and Atotal number of two hundredand fourteen VTE staff were randomly sampled from the VTE institutions from the three geo-political zone of the Tarabastate. A structured questionnaire was used for the collection of data and the data collected was subjected to descriptive statistics. The result shows that institutions are not properly equipped with necessary resources, be it human or material and the following recommendations are made: That the Universities in Taraba State should be adequately staffed with qualified VTE staff, the Universities and College of Education should carry out relevant practical and VTE project for exhibitions should be encouraged, that VTE programs should be given priority in terms of sponsorship, that remunerations should be extended to the VTE staff in secondary School, the Universities in Taraba State should be adequately equipped with relevant equipment for VTE training, that the curriculum planners should update the University VTE curriculum and make VTE course contents relevant and related to industrial demand and that Computer simulations as an instructional media should be used in teaching practical that cannot be accessed by the lecturers
