Abstract

This study investigates the influence of career management practices on organisational innovation in commercial banks in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study focuses specifically on process innovation and administrative innovation as key indicators of organisational adaptability and competitiveness. Using a conceptual empirical design supported with a simulated dataset of 200 employees, Pearson correlation and regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationships between career management practices and innovation outcomes. Results show that career management practices significantly influence both process and administrative innovation, suggesting that structured career pathways, guidance, and employee development mechanisms are linked to improved operational and managerial effectiveness. The study recommends that commercial banks strengthen mentoring, job rotation, and succession planning structures to enhance innovation capability and sustain organisational performance. These findings contribute to understanding the strategic role of career management in fostering innovation in the Nigerian banking sector.
