Abstract

This research provides an in-depth analysis of local content initiatives and technology promotion in
Nigeria. The study examines the current state of local content initiatives on technology promotion
in the internet service, examined the nexus between local content initiatives and technology
promotion, identified challenges and barriers hindering effectiveness of existing initiatives in
technology promotion especially in the internet services. The qualitative research design and the
Technology Acceptance Model were adopted, the secondary sources of data were obtained from
indexes of scholar’s work, seminar, conference paper, journal articles and newspapers. The findings
revealed that local content initiatives influences technology promotion in the internet services
through value creation, job creation, innovation and technology promotion. Although financial and
innovation challenges technically delay the effectiveness of local content initiative. The study
provided recommendations for policy makers, stakeholders and industry players to promote local
content and drive the Nigeria internet services for a digitalised economy.
