Abstract

This study examined the public relations strategy of Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement in the sensitisation of public institutions in the State. Three research questions were posed and one null hypothesis tested at a 0.05 significance level. The study adopted a descriptive survey design with a population of 235 executive officers drawn from public institutions in Rivers State and the from the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement. As the population was accessible, the census sampling was adopted. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data for the study. The analysis was done using the Four-point Likert scale and standard deviation while the z-test statistic was used in testing the null hypothesis. The findings showed that there are several public relations techniques collectively called strategy adopted by the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement for sensitization of public institutions in Rivers State together with its challenges in the utilisation of the strategy. It was concluded that the public relations strategy adopted by the Rivers State Bureau of Public Procurement goes a long way in sensitizing public institutions in Rivers State but not without its constraints. The research therefore recommended that the Rivers State Government should ensure that the Bureau is well funded and that the Bureau ensure that funds accrued to the Bureau be well expended on the provision of state-of-the art facilities and training of staff to promote the public relations strategy being used. ...
