Abstract

The study examined the relationship between Job Design and Office Managers’ Engagement in construction firms in Rivers State. The objectives of the study were to determine the relationship between the dimensions of Job Design such as job enlargement, job enrichment and job rotation; and Office Managers’ engagement measures such as dedication, involvement and quality of work. The study adopted the Cross-sectional Survey Research Design. The population of the study comprised one hundred (100) construction firms in Rivers State. The sample consists of the entire 100 construction firms in Rivers State, which makes the study a census study. The instrument for the study was the use of questionnaire that was validated by experts in Measurement and Evaluation Dept. The instrument was tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha method and established a reliability index of 0.70.  200 copies of the questionnaires were administered to the targeted respondents. However the researchers were able to retrieve 145 copies which was used for the analysis. Mean and standard deviation were used for the univariate analysis; Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used for the bivariate analysis, while the multivariate analysis was done using Partial Correlation. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between Job Design and Office Managers’ Engagement in construction firms in Rivers State. It was also found that technological innovation moderates the relationship between job design and Office Managers’ Engagement in construction firms in Rivers State. The study concluded that Job Design correlates with Office Managers’ Engagement in construction firms in Rivers State. It recommended amongst others that construction firms should expand the scope of Office Managers' roles to enhance dedication by adding diverse tasks that align with their skills and interests
