COMMUNITY RADIO BROADCASTING, AN IMPARATIVE TOOL FOR RURAL MOBILIZATION IN SOUTH –EAST NIGERIA
Abstract
The broad goal of this study is to extol the need for community broadcasting in South-East Nigeria. The study was anchored on the uses and gratification theory of the media. The survey research method was used in this study, whilecopies of the questionnaire were administered as a means of data collection instrument. Residents of South – East Nigeria constituted the population of the study from where a sample of 387 was drawn using creative research system online calculator. The multi-stage sampling machine was used, while tables and simple percentage were deployed to present and analyze the collected data. Based on empirical data collected, it was revealed that communities in South –East Nigeria don’t have sufficient community radio broadcast stations. Researchers recommend that at least one community broadcast station should be built and located in every community in the South-East so as to help mobilize the people at the grassroot for community development, unity,progress and to promote their rich culture and give them a sense of belonging in national discuss.
