Abstract

Twelve samples of water were collected from four communities in Edo state using Gamma ray spectroscopy, NaI(TI) in order to detect and calculate the activity concentration, radiation health indices and the daily radionuclide intake of water and age dependent annual effective dose due to the intake of 40K, 238U, and 232Th, In the water samples were also calculated, activity concentrations for 40K, 238U, and 232Th varied from 205.50±1.15 to 723.92±8.96, 5.23±0.04 to 20.58±0.12, and 0.93±0.04 to 7.17±0.12 Bq/l, respectively. For the radionuclide health indices of water samples all the radiological health parameters in this research work were below the recommended limits, lastly ages 0-1yr and ages 12-17yrs had the highest value for radionuclide intake of water.
