PRODUCTION DEVIANT BEHAVOUR AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGER DELTA REGION OF NIGERIA

This work examined the influence of production deviance behaviours on Interventionist Agencies performance in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The objective of the study was to examine the extent to which production deviant behavior influences economic growth. The study adopted the cross-sectional explanatory survey research design. Census sample techniques was employed to drawn the population after validation by the supervisors, 268 copies of structured questionnaires were administered while 247 were retrieved. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using Cronbach alpha. Mean and standard deviation were used for the univariate analysis while spearman rank order correlation was used for the bivariate analysis and multivariate analysis, while the partial correlation techniques was used to test the moderating role of stakeholders’ interest. The results showed that property deviance influences measures of interventionist agencies performance such as economic growth, environment issues and social justice. The study concluded that a drastic and intentional reduction in the production deviant behaviours by all stakeholders would enhance the performance of these agencies. Consequently, the study recommended among other things that there should be an effective measure to check corruption in these interventionist agencies in order to enhance their performance.
