Abstract

The study examined the relationship between record management practices and organizational
performance of Access Bank Plc in Rivers State. The purpose of the study was to examine the
extent which dimensions of record management practices such as file creation and tracking, e-
mailing and file maintenance relate to organizational performance such as quality service delivery,
market share and profitability. The explanatory cross sectional survey research design was
adopted which necessitated the test of hypotheses. The population of the study consisted of 22
branches of Access Bank Plc resident in Rivers State while it adopted a census sampling of 69
respondents as sample size. A total of 69 questionnaires were administered by the researcher
while 60 copies retrieved. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to test
hypotheses. Findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between record management
practices and organizational performance of Access Bank Plc in Rivers State. The study concluded
that continuous improvements in that record management practice in terms of file
creation/tracking, e-mailing and file maintenance brings about corresponding improvements in
organizational performance. The study recommended among others that management should
endeavour to provide catalogue of their organizational records to employees to facilitate tracking
of information; Managers of Access Bank Plc in Rivers State should imbibe the habit of
disseminating information via e-mail to existing customers in other to enhance quick service
delivery, this will equally attract potential customers
