Abstract

In recent time, stakeholders in the education industry had attributed the dismal and poor Students’ performance in both internal and external examinations in public secondary schools in Bayelsa State to non-availability or poor state of facilities in the public secondary schools. It is against this background that this study critically examined the availability of school facilities and students performance in external examination in public secondary schools in Bayelsa State, Nigeria (2016-2020). The study wes anchored on Attribution theory by Fritz Heider in 1958. The study adopted the descnptive survey design using trend analysis and document analysis approaches. Two (2) abjectives and two (2) corresponding research questions guided the study. May/June WASSCE results for the years under study were obtained and analyzed using the total number of students that enrolled €ach year and the total number that obtained five credit and above in each year to constitute those that passed the external examinations. Simple percentage was used to calculate the Percentage pass with 85% as the criterion percentage. Data was generated using seffstructured check list.
